Opening Crawl

Open this, click play. There is custom text.

If the opening crawl isn’t working, just hum the theme to yourself and read the transcript.

Character Creation

You can use the character creation program available on the Fantasy Flight Games forums.

Character Creator.

IMPORTANT Go to “Options” (top row, third button from the right) and then click Deselect All (right under the list of splatbooks).

Backstory

During character generation, you chose your BACKGROUND, your MOTIVATION , and perhaps most importantly your OBLIGATION.

Whatever backstory you want to write, make sure those three things are incorporated. If you don’t want to write a long backstory, just give me a sentence or two for each element explaining them.

Example

Corvo Attano BACKGROUND: High and Mighty/Enemies and Antagonists ; MOTIVATION: Ambition, Local Politics; OBLIGATION; Betrayal

BACKGROUND: Corvo was once nobility, the Lord Protector and personal bodyguard of the queen of his independent home planet but the prime minister murdered the queen, turned over the planet to the Empire (and was made a Moff in return), and framed Corvo for the murder.
MOTIVATION: Ever the patriot, Corvo wants his home planet to be free again, and if he has to overthrow the whole damn empire to do it, so be it.
OBLIGATION: Corvo once trusted the prime minister as a mentor and friend and has been so deeply shaken by the betrayal that he would like nothing more than to sink a blade into the former prime minister’s throat (too bad he’s now a Grand Moff lol).

Further, you may choose one of the following two options:

  1. Give me an reason for why your character is working for Needa the Hutt, a crime lord on Nar Shaddaa OR
  2. Share an OBLIGATION (p39) with someone who chose option 1.

Example

Say you can’t figure out what your colonist or explorer is doing on Nar Shaddaa working for Needa, and your bud is playing a smuggler who is working for Needa because Needa is protecting him from an angry former employer.
Then you can say that you are both (OBLIGATION: DEBT) in debt for the purchase of a ship you two shared which turned out to be faulty and was destroyed. Since both your names are on the loan you have to be here to help your smuggler bro pay down that debt before it gets you both killed.

Also, your OBLIGATION should not be to Needa. You can have an obligation (lower-case) to Needa but I would need you to have an independent Obligation (upper-case) too.

Gear

You start with a blaster, a comlink, and a small amount of spending cash. You’ll get more gear from the dead drop

Character Sheets

I’ll need your character sheets by Friday, July 18th.

If you have a pdf (e.g. one spit out by that character creator), you can:

  • Upload them to my dropbox. I invited you if you have an account. If you don’t have an account, steam message your email address to me and I’ll add you. Otherwise you can just
  • Upload it to google drive, or
  • Email it to me at insanityv2@gmail.com. I’d prefer dropbox though.

Miscellaneous Things

Some Initial NPCs

Reelo

Reelo is your contact within the Hutt Cartel. He is a fixer — Needa the Hutt or one of lieutenants will tell him what they want done, and Reelo’s job will be to gather intel, assemble a team, provide equipment, arrange transportation, and report the status of the jobs back to Needa. While you are on a job from him, Reelo will be the voice on the other side of your comlink.

Reelo has a smart mouth and a spice problem, but is tolerated because he is good at his job. There are rumors that he has some military experience, but Reelo doesn’t strike anyone as much of a soldier.

Needa

Needa is a prominent member of the Hutt Cartel who operates out of his casino, The Red Palacethe Red Light District in Nar Shaddaa. His criminal empire includes spice smuggling and distribution, slaving, loan-sharking, racketeering.

Nar Shaddaa

Here is a Nar Shaddaa image dump. These are from TOR, but nothing in Star Wars ever changes, so I’m ruling that it still pretty much looks like this.

The Imperial Suites

Location – Juuta’s Cantina, Nar Shaddaa Promenade
Time – 23:30

We got a simple job for you tonight: Break into a penthouse suite above the Promenade, relieve some fat Imperial bureaucrat with more credits than sense of his priceless trinket.

The newly appointed Imperial Customs Officer Daran Fahn is refusing to recognize the… understanding that his predecessor had with our boss, Needa the Hutt. He’s even had the gall to try and crack down on our operations here — the boss has had several crates of product confiscated this past week from his private spaceport.

See what Fahn needs to learn is that the Hutt Cartel owns this system, and Needa owns the Nar Shaddaa’s spice trade. Fahn think’s he’s untouchable up in his little penthouse suite overlooking the Promenade, but he needs to be shown that he’s wrong.

(Heh, look at this dweeb.)

Fahn is be travelling off-world on Imperial business and word is that his elite guards will be going with him for protection. In a couple of hours, the remaining guards will change shift, meaning that everyone in there is either about to go to sleep or have just woken up. The time is ripe for a bit of burglary.

Fahn keeps an heirloom, some trophy from his father’s service with the Imperial Navy, that he keeps in a secure display case made of cortosis-reinforced transparisteel alloy that’s wired into the alarm system. Whatever that trophy is, it must be pretty valuable for Fahn to have spent the credits on that kind of security. (Or at least, valuable enough to Fahn that it will hurt him to use it.) The display case is basically impenetrable. It’s also only 2 cubic meters in size. So you are going to steal the entire thing, bring it back to us, where we can blow it open at our leisure. Remember, if you cut the power, the entire alarm system should be inoperative.

I took the liberty of casing the place. His apartment has transparisteel walls so I was able see enough to draw up a pretty good map of the place just from taking a couple laps around it with my speeder. I did not see the display case, but Fahn, like most of his kind, probably keeps his treasures close to his heart, and far from his servants: I’d start with his study and his bedroom.

One last thing, just to make sure our dear friend Fahn gets the message, cause a little property damage. Slash some artwork, break a couple vases, get creative. Just make sure it gets the message across clearly: we can reach him in his home if we want to.

Kill any Fahn’s personal guard that you need to, but don’t let any of them set off the building alarm. That would alert the Imperials. Your gear is at the dead-drop on your map. This jobs pure sabaac. Should be hard to fuck up, even for us.

There’s no point in waiting. Promenade air traffic is almost non-existent at this time of night, and anyone who’s going to be asleep already is. It’s time to begin

The Imperial Suites Debrief

BREAKING NEWS

At approximately 01:37 this morning, Rebel terrorists attacked the Promenade district of Nar Shaddaa. Investigators from the Imperial Security Bureau suspect that the terrorists exploited the weakness in the power grid at the Imperial Penthouse Suites, and purposefully triggered a chain reaction by simultaneously overloading the buildings top two generators. The power grid is shielded from power surges, but these particular two generators were temporarily set up to power adjacent buildings as well while the power grid is being overhauled. The Imperial Security Bureau is working to track down the potential security leak that allowed the Rebels to discern when the maintenance schedule of the power grid.

A suspicious speeder was seen fleeing the Promenade shortly after the attack.

If anybody has information as to the whereabouts of this speeder and who may have been piloting it, please call the Imperial Security Bureau office on Nar Shaddaa.

In other news, Imperial Customs Officer Darahn Fahn was found in possession of a large amount of contraband materials. Officer Fahn lived in the Imperial Suite building, but has gone missing. Imperial Security Bureau investigators uncovered evidence that Officer Fahn may have been taking bribes from known criminal organizations. The potential connection between Fahn and the Rebel terrorist attack is currently being investigated.

SECURE MESSAGE

Well… that was… done with significantly less finesse than I would have preferred. I had to ditch my slicer console, because ISB got a trace on it. I took a pretty big risk securing that speeder for you. ISB really does not like people slicing into their traffic network. Still, in the end, Fahn is out the way and his successor will know how dangerous it is not to cooperate with the Hutt Cartel.

We are disturbed at this news that the Fahn was cooperating with the Black Sun however… We are in the heart of Hutt Space, a sublight hop from Nal Hutta, the Hutt homeworld. The Black Sun has never been bold enough to try and operate here before.

Oh and about this lightsaber. It’s not working. See in the early days of the Empire, the Imperials had a bounty out on the “Jedi traitors”. They would pay for lightsabers, since Jedi were apparently never supposed part with theirs or whatever. However, Needa had a nice racket going where we had a contact in the Imperial Navy giving us the collected lightsabers, and we’d turn around and sell them to the lazier bounty hunters, who would in turn sell them back to the Imperials. They got wise and took to disabling them though, by removing the crystals and power supplies.

Here, keep it. Maybe you’ll be able to use it to intimidate some idiots. Just don’t let the Imperials catch you with it.

Guys

Thanks again for that favor. I’ve been had an ear to the chatter after last night and it looks like the package took. You really saved my ass out there.

Anyways I heard about that business with Rax. That might have caused some trouble: He was one of Jabba’s trusted lieutenants. Ol’ CJ is kind of pissed you guys killed him and on Red Palace Property to boot, but Needa seems like he’s ok with Jabba’s men being reminded that they are not on their home turf here.

It’s not all good news though. Two more of our dealers have been robbed and Needa is getting kind of pissed that no one’s found them yet. I’ve been forced to make it an open bounty. You guys can still collect if you find them first, but if you don’t someone else will get your credits. Just a heads up.

Take care guys, next round at the Mynock is on me.

- R

PS Hey I can get you guys tickets to the Great Zale fight next week. I don’t know if any of you arena fans, but I’m sick of seeing his posters everywhere and I’m really hoping the newcomer beats his smug Gran eyestalks off. Anyways hit me back if you’re interested.

Hey baby,

Are you tired of girls laughing at the size of your lekku? Underwhelmed at the size of your tentacles. Aren’t you tired of being inadequate in every way?

Well your prayers have been answered friend because our scientists have discovered the secrets of prehensile appendage enhancement. In three short months, our customers were able to increase the length, strength and flexibility of their lekku, tentacles, and tails with only a couple of painless injections.

Reply now. Because size matters.

Gentlemen.

I do not appreciate you starting a fire-fight in the hotel. You could have at the very least told me before attempting an assassination in the hotel I’m supposed to keep running smoothly.

I have received numerous complaints from angry guests, and while Needa may be amused at this sleight towards his rival within the Hutt Cartel, I assure you that any escalation in tensions you may cause will only make our lives more difficult in the long run.

Remember, that while Reelo may give you your assignments, it is I who evaluates which employees continue to be useful to our operations here on Nar Shaddaa. It would behoove you to remember that the next time a situation may call for discretion.

You will be hearing from me.

Harido Gen,

You are once again late with your rent. We have assessed a late fee as per the lease agreement.

Furthermore, we have been receiving reports that you have unregistered guests staying with you for long periods of time. As a reminder, you are the only name on the lease, and if you want to have guests for more than a few weeks, they need to be put on the lease and pay rent.

Please take care of this as soon as possible.

Hey guys,

You did good. Real good. Needa just wanted the thieves dead, but you also managed to recover the merchandise. That earns you a bonus. Man you should have seen the look on Azura’s face when she came in to claim the reward and I told her that you beat her. For some reason, she was under the impression that you lot were completely incompetent. Whatever, it can only help you to have your competition underestimate you. Anyways, it turns out that she had been interrogating Dr. Gravelin about his selling some sort of cybernetic arm that belonged to one of the thieves, and while you guys were shooting up the thieve’s hideout, the good Doctor was being uncooperative. Who knows, maybe he liked being interrogated. Can’t say I blame him.

Anyways, I got a gig lined up for us. It’s not quite as flashy as the Promenade Job, but it’ll probably be the easiest 1,000 credits we’ll ever make. Apparently, all this Black Sun business has the big shots in the Hutt Cartel kind of riled up. So a couple of said big-shots are coming to the Red Palace to discuss the situation with Needa personally. It’s sort of a big deal, Hutt’s don’t travel often and Cartel business between Hutts is usually conducted over Holo-vid. I think your intel about a potential Black Sun mole within the cartel has them a little paranoid about tapped comm-lines and bugs and the like, but Needa’s throne room is probably one of the most secure places in Hutt space. CJ especially is on edge, probably because he’s ultimately responsible for all the other lieutenants. If one of them really is a traitor, it’s his lekku on the line.

So here’s what it boils down to. A few members of the Hutt Grand Council will be arriving at the Nar Shaddaa spaceport at various times on the day before the meeting. Each of them will be escorted from the spaceport to the Red Palace by a convoy of three armored airspeeders. You guys will be part of Teemo the Hutt’s convoy, riding aboard the rear airspeeder. In the highly unlikely event that anyone is stupid enough to attack the convoy, your job is to keep the shuttle carrying Teemo safe.

(On that note, are any of you good pilots? If you want, I can hire one, but his fee will come out of our pay for the job.)

Then the next day, you guys, and a couple more of Needa’s men will secure the casino floor. Needa will have his elite guard handling security for the actual meeting up in the throne room. Your job will just be to make sure noone goes through the Employee’s Only doors and to report anything suspicious you see. I’ll be on your comlinks and monitoring the Red Palace’s security camera feeds and alarms and such. So, essentially all you guys need to do is stand around holding a big blaster rifle and look menacing for a couple of hours. And then we all leave 1000 credits richer for basically having spent the day doing nothing.

Also the Arena Championship Match is the night after the meeting. I got tickets for you guys. My suggestion is we all head to the Mynock Drop to pregame, get that belligerent kind of drunk, then heckle the “Great” Zale and hit on ring girls.

Later,

-R

P.S. Since you guys were down in the Undercity for that last job, do you guys know what the hell happened with the Ravagers? Apparently their leader got offed and now the whole place is a fucking war zone. I was running support for a crew smuggling some weapons through the Undercity and they told me that there’s two factions each blaming the other for their boss’s death. There’s fighting on the streets and we had to abandon the goods and bail.

SECURE MESSAGE

Gentlemen,

I looked into the intel you brought me concerning moles within our organization working for the Black Sun. It checks out, and corresponds with some discrepancies I’ve notices in our books and in the reports I receive from my lieutenants. I am looking in to the matter, but I have yet to determine who is responsible. Until I do, I would appreciate your discretion in the matter. Do not discuss your Black Sun-related intel or my continuing investigation with anyone inside or outside our organization, no matter how trustworthy they seem. If you turn up any further information about the Black Sun’s activities on Nar Shaddaa, turn it over to me immediately.

I suppose I should congratulate you for locating the stolen merchandise. Despite the role luck probably had in your accomplishment, Needa is very impressed with you. He may, in the future, come to expect that level of competence from you when you are given further assignments. I would not disappoint him, were I in your position.

Attached is your payment, along with your bonus for recovering the goods. I expect our little Rodian associate has informed you of your next assignment. I do not doubt that he irresponsibly described the assignment as inconsequential, not requiring your full attention. He is wrong. Our esteemed visitors are among the most important beings in the Hutt Cartel, and their security is our paramount concern. Let me be understood: if anything goes wrong during their stay here, I am holding you all personally responsible. I would advise you spend your bonus to equip yourselves instead of frittering it away doing…. whatever it is that you do. I would advise you to arrive early (and sober) on the day of your assignment, and treat our visitors with the utmost respect. And please, do try to shower and dress appropriately.

Regards,

Cag’Jufo
Manager of the Red Palace Resort and Casino

Night 1- Nightmares
Times are a chang'in

harido_head.pngHarido Gen

“It was for a job.” Harido reminds himself as he awakes for the hundredth time that night. The first night is always the worst. Hes killed plenty before, but not like this. Hes never pulled a still beating heart out of a mans chest, hes collected fingers, or ears before.. but never a heart. He doesn’t ponder why the crazy old blind lady would want it either. Some things are just better left alone.

Harido leaves the comfort of his bed, unsure if he really slept at all that night. He doesn’t care about the time. He washes his hands, but no matter what he uses they still feel thick with blood. He decides to go for a walk.

As he makes his way to the door of his apartment he trips over his Shag Carpet? “Wait.. I dont have a shag carpet.” He looks down to see Dewpirr sprawled out on the floor. Harido rolls his eyes at the unconscious wookie then remembers the next job. He writes down something on a note and leaves it by the smelly wookie. Harido stares at the door of his apartment…

Roll Success, Harido opens the door and leaves.

The light activity still going on in the bazaars indicate that its not extremely late. So Harido makes his way to the Mynock Drop. Once there he spots a conscious Reelo at what can only be considered “his spot.” He joins his friend for some drinking. During the night Reelo passess Harido some spice. The two proceed to drink.
-“First you take a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes you.”
